In the fall of 1962, several people expressed interest in a place of divine worship in the Valencia Park Community. A meeting was called on Friday, April 26, 1963 with Rev. L.L. Henderson presiding. The objective of organizing a church was the topic of discussion.

The Group agreed to call another meeting on Sunday, May 5, at the Mabel E. O’Farrell Junior High School for organization as a church body. Rev. C. Johnson, Moderator of the Progressive Baptist District Association officiated and the group was duly installed as a church.
Rev. Henderson was unanimously elected as Pastor and the name Bayview Baptist Church was adopted. After a canvass of the community for a suitable location, the site at 6030 Skyline Drive was chosen.

The congregation grew rapidly and it was obvious that additional land would be needed for future expansion. Thus, five acres were purchased for a new sanctuary at 61st and Benson Avenue.

On May 10, 1972 Rev. Henderson passed away. The congregation maintained its charter as a church - and continued for thirteen months without a pastor. On Sunday, June 12, 1973 the congregation unanimously called Rev. Timothy J. Winters as pastor. Pastor Winters assumed the leadership of the church the following Sunday. Under the leadership of Pastor Winters, the church has continued to grow spiritually, numerically and financially. The congregation now totals over 2,800 families, and occupies a multi-level edifice at our present location. Construction of the edifice began in October 1978, and was completed in June, 1981. In 1995, construction of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Christian Center which holds the administrative offices, classrooms, The Bayview Cultural Bible Bookstore and the Nubia Leadership Academy (Charter School).
