The Bayview Baptist Church Gospel Dance Troupe is made up of several young yet highly spirited youth, ranging in age from 7 to 18 years, whose main purpose and drive is to give praise unto our Lord and Savior through the expression of dance! These young people have come to know and understand the importance of what they do for Christ and how as Christians their lives must be an example of the love that has been given to th by Jesus Christ our Lord. Each child is expected to give his or her best at all times because Christ gives each of us nothing but His very best.
The Bayview Gospel Dance Troupe was originally conceived and organized by its present director/choreographer, Steven T. Beard. Mr. Beard who is an accomplished dancer was a mber of the former my Award Winning San Diego State University Black Repertory Total Theatrical Experience, directed by the late Dr. Danny L. Scarborough, and the former founder/director/choreographer for six years of the Gompers Secondary School, ‘Dance Imani’ Dance Company. Tara Jones of the Season’s of Praise dance ministry serves as assistant choreographer to the gospel dance troupe.
Inspired by Psalms 150, the urging of the Holy Spirit, and his love of God, Mr. Beard was allowed to realize his vision of a gospel dance troupe in February of 1996 when the company took its first steps with nine dancers, supported by his Pastor, Dr. Timothy J. Winters and the Bayview Baptist Church family
The Gospel Dance Troupe of Bayview has performed extensively throughout the city and county of San Diego and has worshiped as far north as Sacramento, Ca. and as far south as Imperial Beach, Ca. and as far east to Minneapolis, Minnesota. The dance troupe is well known in the religious community yet continues to blaze trails of worship and praise in the hearts and minds of people everywhere. We are proud of our service to our Lord and Savior over the last eleven years. As a company we have received recognition and numerous certificates and awards from such venues as the Del Mar Fair, San Diego Homeowners/Home Buyers Faire, The City of Chula Vista, NAACP, Teen Rally for Healthy Futures, Gold Coast Classic Scholarship Pageant, Martin Luther King Jr. Parade, Annual Linda Vista Street Fair & Parade, San Diego Black Film Festival, Voice and Viewpoint Community Newspaper, Bayview Freedom School, Berean Christian Bookstore, CSU San Marcos, San Diego State University, UNCF Telethon-KGTV Channel 10, Gospel Fest 2000 in Oceanside, Ca., World Cultures Black Dance Festival, New World Africans, Anniversary Kuumba Fest since 2000, Liturgical Dance Conference 2000 & 2001 in Compton, Ca., The Community Of Faith Church in Houston, Texas, St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Sacramento, CA., GMWA (Gospel Music Workshop of America) Minneapolis, Minnesota 2001 to name a few. The Bayview Gospel Dance Troupe is on the move in it’s “Next Level” commitment to giving God their very best.
Seasons of Praise (Adult Liturgical Dance Ministry)
The Bayview Baptist Church, “Seasons Of Praise” Gospel Dance Troupe was formed in May of 2000 under the leadership of Bro. Steven T. Beard Director/Choreographer. With many foundational prayers and the supportive urging of Pastor Winters, our newly formed ministry took its first steps of praise. This group now consists of 15 committed individuals who truly love the Lord and being in His service. They have worshiped throughout the San Diego religious community as well as special engagements and civic events. They minister regularly at the Women’s Detention Center (Los Colinas) in El Cajon on major holidays. Audiences have received them in the spirit of which they represent: the spirit of joy and love in Christ Jesus.
